Analytics Engineer
Location: NYC
Compensation: $100k - $130k Base + Performance Bonus
What Orchard Does
Orchard Analytics is an established boutique data engineering and analytics agency. Our top-tier portfolio of clients range from the most exciting brands in Consumer to growth stage Series-C tech startups – and they rely on us as their data team. You get a front row seat to how companies doing a billion dollars in aggregate revenue operate and a business school style exposure to different industries (consumer, healthcare, software, real estate, etc.)
We use a modern stack: Fivetran, Prefect, BigQuery/Snowflake, Cursor, dbt, Looker, Omni. We move fast and ship work every week that actually gets used.
The Role
At Orchard, Analytics Engineers own client relationships and are responsible for the implementation of scalable data models and reporting that turn raw data into clear, actionable insights. They effectively play a “Head of Data” role for the clients they work with and manage.
Client Ownership
Own the full analytics relationship for your clients – learn their business and figure out how they should leverage data and select appropriate tools.
Run weekly syncs with stakeholders (marketing, finance, ops) to understand priorities and deliver against them
Translate ambiguous business questions into concrete data requirements
Push back when needed, prioritize ruthlessly, and ship work that actually moves the needle
Analytics Engineering
Build and maintain dbt models with an emphasis on clarity and maintainability
Define and implement core business metrics that stakeholders trust
Build dashboards and reporting in Looker or Omni that people actually use
Troubleshoot data quality issues and fix problems at the source
Help figure out how clients should interact with their data through AI – this is an active area we're experimenting with, not a solved problem
Who This Is For
This role is a fit if:
You want to get extremely good at what you do – managing business relationships, communication, data infrastructure, data models, dashboards, and analysis
You thrive in a fast-paced environment where ownership is expected and strong performance is rewarded.
You have 2-4 years of experience in analytics, BI, or data
You're solid in SQL – not necessarily a wizard, but you can write and debug complex queries on your own.
You've built dashboards and actually had to defend the numbers to stakeholders
You can handle ambiguity. Our clients don't always know what they want. You help them figure it out
You’re excited about AI and what it can do
dbt experience is a plus but not required. If you've been itching to learn it, you'll get plenty of reps here.
Who This Is NOT For
If you don't like client-facing work, this is the wrong role. You'll be on calls. You'll get requests that are vague or last-minute. You'll need to push back diplomatically and deliver anyway.
If you're optimizing for work-life balance above all else, we're not the right fit. The pace is real. We are expected to be responsive and sharp
Why You Might Love This
A few things that might not be obvious:
You'll learn faster here than almost anywhere else. You're not going to sit in a corner running the same dashboards for one company. You'll work across clients with totally different data, business models, and stakeholders. In 2 years, you'll have the experience to be a Head of Data somewhere.
You'll work on interesting problems. Our clients range from beauty brands to marketplaces to B2B SaaS. Different data, different questions, different challenges, different business models.
Small team, high trust. We’re a small, high performing team. No politics, no layers. You own your clients. Your work matters.
You'll be rewarded for strong performance. High performers make good money here.
